Police arrested a suspect Wednesday following the shooting death of a community college student on the University of Arizona campus Sept. 22.
The three-day search ended after Ryan Romero-Encinas was arrested by university police at an apartment complex about four miles north of the campus in Tucson.
Romero-Encinas was arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing Minhaj Jamshidi, a Pima Community College student, on the UA campus near the volleyball courts at Park Ave. and 4th St. He is charged with first-degree murder.
The community college’s Chancellor, Jeffrey P. Nass, released a statement expressing his condolences and confirming that Jamshidi was a student there. Romero-Encinas was not affiliated with UA.
The killing happened around 11 p.m. Sunday outside the Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall afte a fight involving several individuals, according to authorities.
It’s unclear if the two men were connected or why they were on the UA campus.
