From Sunshine to Storms: Arizona’s Weather is About to Take a Shocking Turn!

Arizona residents are in for a drastic change in weather as a powerful system moves across the state, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow, and rapidly shifting temperatures. After a period of mild and dry conditions, this storm is expected to impact travel, create hazardous road conditions, and even bring the threat of flooding in certain areas. Officials are urging residents to prepare now as the storm strengthens over the next 48 hours. Currently, much of the state is experiencing mild weather with Phoenix sitting at 57°F (14°C) under mostly cloudy skies. Tucson is slightly cooler at 55°F (13°C), while Flagstaff is already feeling the effects of colder air, sitting at 34°F (1°C). These calm conditions, however, won’t last long as moisture moves in from the Pacific, setting the stage for a statewide weather event.

How the Storm Will Unfold

By Thursday, the first signs of the storm will appear with increasing clouds and a chance of light rain developing in parts of central and southern Arizona. Phoenix is expected to see a high of 69°F (21°C), while Tucson will reach 71°F (21°C). Up north, Flagstaff will remain chilly at 37°F (3°C), with the first snow showers beginning to develop in the afternoon.

Friday is when the real action begins. The storm system will strengthen, bringing widespread rain to Phoenix, Tucson, and surrounding areas. Morning showers could impact the commute, and rain totals may add up quickly, leading to localized flooding in low-lying areas. Flagstaff and other higher elevations will experience a mix of rain and snow early in the day before transitioning to all snow as temperatures drop.
