It’s the end of an era for Durant’s in Phoenix. But the legend lives on

Durant’s, one of Phoenix’s oldest and most storied restaurants , is closing after 75 years. But it’s not goodbye forever, rather a passing of the torch.

Since Jack Durant and Jack R. McElroy opened it in 1950 in Wayne’s Midway on Central Avenue, Durant’s has become one of the most iconic fine dining restaurants in Phoenix and part of the city’s fabric, welcoming politicians, celebrities, athletes, as well as locals and tourists celebrating special occasions. The pink facade is a landmark.

“It’s humbling to realize that we have a reputation like that,” McElroy’s son, Jack Jr. said. ” And it’s so crucial to hold on to that because that is so rare these days.”…
