Multi-Vehicle Crash In Arizona Kills 6, Injures 13

On Saturday, March 1, a multi-vehicle crash took place on Interstate 10 in Arizona. This resulted in the deaths of six individuals with 13 more getting injured. Following the crash, which involved tractor-trailers and smaller passenger vehicles, many of them caught fire.

According to AZCentral, the crash happened at around 1 p.m. on Saturday, as state troopers responded to several calls reporting the major crash. An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson told the outlet that the crash took place on the outskirts of Phoenix, around 14 miles west of Tonopah.

Images from the crash show several vehicles scorched by fire, showing signs of the violent collision that prompted the fire that engulfed them. Initially, local officials confirmed four dead as they arrived at the scene. However, on Saturday afternoon, the death toll was raised to six. A total of 13 people were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment. No information regarding the extent or gravity of their injuries.

Further Crash Details

Following the crash, both westbound and eastbound lanes were closed. However, the westbound lanes have since been reopened, according to Fox Weather. Eastbound lanes have remained closed and the Department of Public Safety had “no estimated time for reopening,” according to a press release. The Arizona Department of Transportation later confirmed that the eastbound lanes were reopened at around 7 a.m. EST on Sunday, March 2.

No information regarding the identities of the deceased or injuries has been released to the public yet. Moreover, there is no further information regarding what caused the multi-vehicle crash. Fox Weather reveals that the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Arizona, issued a warning regarding dust storms in the area.
