Pilots in the two planes involved in a recent mid-air collision at Marana Airport were arguing before one of the planes went down, killing two people, reports say.
“The first plane was doing a low fly by, and the second plane had come down the runway to do a take off, they were chattering at each other, yelling at each other, about ‘You cut me off,’” said one witness, explaining the radio chatter he heard between the pilots before the crash.
Michael Reinath, 70, and Linda Gifford, 75, died from thermal and blunt-force injuries. The deaths were ruled as an accident. Reinath’s toxicology report showed no substances that could have impaired him. Reinath was piloting a Lancair 360 MKII, which he had built from a kit.
