In a move that places youth and student perspectives at the helm of higher education decision-making, Governor Katie Hobbs has named University of Arizona student Felipe Garcia to the Arizona Board of Regents. Garcia, an active participant in community and academic affairs, will be taking over from outgoing Student Regent David Zaragoza whose term concludes at the end of June, as reported on the official announcement from the Governor’s office.
Garcia’s appointment is not only a nod to his academic pursuits in Political Science and Creative Intelligence and Innovation, but also a recognition of his substantial involvement in community service and leadership roles. “Felipe Garcia is committed to ensuring Arizona’s public university students succeed, and I am proud to appoint him to the Arizona Board of Regents,” Governor Hobbs was quoted, affirming his confidence in Garcia’s effectiveness as a student representative. Felipe will work alongside Regent Jadyn Fisher from NAU to represent student interests on the board, as per the Governor’s Office.
