TUCSON, AZ (AZFamily) — A man accused of leading an international human smuggling ring appeared in a federal courtroom in southern Arizona on Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Justice says a federal grand jury in Tucson indicted 48-year-old Abbas Ali Haider for allegedly conspiring to bring migrants from Pakistan into the United States.
Prosecutors say Haider operated phony film production companies to front his smuggling operation. He allegedly used those Pakistan-based companies to contract with actual film companies in Ecuador, Cuba, and Colombia, helping to sponsor visas under the guise of a joint film project in Latin America…
