Tucson rejects Amazon-linked data center amid water, energy concerns

TUCSON, AZ (AZFamily) —The Tucson City Council has voted to reject Project Blue, a proposed 290-acre data center project tied to Amazon, after months of public discussion and debate.

The data center was planned for land near the Pima County Fairgrounds. Pima County had sold the property to developer Beale Infrastructure, but the site needed to be annexed into the city to move forward.

Plans called for multiple data centers to be built in phases, using large amounts of electricity and cooling systems. Some residents and council members raised concerns over water use, energy demands, and possible costs to ratepayers…
