Tucson teacher using hands-on learning to combat absence issue

TUCSON, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona is seeing an issue with chronic absences in the classroom, and data shows nearly a quarter of students missed at least 18 days of school last year. So it’s Something Good when an educator is looking to remedy the problem!

Caitlin Reynolds, an agriculture teacher at Flowing Wells High School in Tucson is using hands-on learning with her students, and she’s seeing great results. Reynolds says her class is different from most, but it connects with all types of students, even those who struggle in school.

“My classroom is the flip of most settings. We do things hands on, more doing, we go outside and do it, and then we come back and talk about the science behind it, and it connects,” Reynolds explained…
