New headquarters for Oro Valley police

In a town that prides itself on high-quality public safety — and spends significantly for it — Oro Valley’s police headquarters building was too small the day it was occupied in 1994.

Since then, the Oro Valley Police Department’s force has more than doubled, from 53 to 107 sworn officers. There are 31 full-time civilian employees and three part-timers. OVPD units are spread across four locations.

At its 11000 N. La Canada headquarters, space is so tight that detectives, having difficulty conducting conversations above the noise, asked for headphones to muffle it, Chief Kara Riley said.
