Arizona Weather Alert: Tucson Faces Triple-Digit Heat and Thunderstorm Risk Through Sunday, August 24

TUCSON, Ariz. – Extreme heat will push Tucson into dangerous territory again Sunday as temperatures soar near 107 degrees, combining with a chance of late-day thunderstorms that could hit parts of the metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an Excessive Heat Warning remains in place until 8 p.m. Sunday, urging residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activity. The agency warns that hot pavement can burn skin within seconds and that storm activity could lead to sudden street flooding, especially along I-10 near downtown.

Saturday brought dry skies with isolated thunder cells in eastern Pima County, but forecasters expect Sunday to intensify with higher storm chances. By late afternoon, unstable air could fuel lightning and localized heavy downpours, especially east toward Vail and Oro Valley.
