Summit Hut has been a staple among Tucson’s outdoor sporting enthusiasts since the late 1960s, specializing in gear for hikers, campers and climbers alike.

But this week, on social media, Summit Hut owners Dana and Jeremy Davis announced that the retailer will be going out of business permanently. They say rising costs were a catalyst for the store’s impending closure. The owners also cited changes to customer habits, and tough competition with online sellers and big-box stores as among the challenges they had faced over the past few years…
