Aaniya Coley had a regular routine, where the Tucson High School senior took advantage of her early release schedule and went to the nearby University of Arizona campus to study for her Advanced Placement classes.
On the afternoon of Aug. 19, the 17-year-old was stabbed inside UA’s Main Library in what her family called an unexpected attack by her longtime boyfriend, leaving her with 17 wounds. UA police said a 17-year-old boy, not affiliated with the university, was taken into custody and booked into a juvenile detention center.
Coley is now recovering at home after a hospital stay, her mother, Christine Lindsey, said. Lindsey detailed her daughter’s injuries as seven stab wounds to the back, three to the chest, four to the head, including one to an eyelid, two to the palm while trying to fend off the attack, and one to the arm.
