University of Arizona to end statewide nutrition program for families on food assistance

The University of Arizona will end a program bringing nutrition education to people on food assistance throughout the state.

AZ Health Zone is what Arizona calls its version of the educational outreach component of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known nationally as SNAP-Ed. The Arizona Department of Health Services helps administer the program through the university’s cooperative extension.

It works in communities to educate families receiving food stamps about healthy food preparation and physical activity, but the program is ending this month after the Trump Administration cut its funding as part of the Big Beautiful Bill Act…
