Inmate fatally shot by corrections officer at Tucson hospital identified

An inmate who was shot and killed by a corrections officer during a fight at a Tucson hospital where the man was receiving treatment has been identified as Nathan Peru, 31.

A fight broke out between Peru and Caitlin Acosta, a 5-year veteran as a Pima County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer assigned to Peru, according to Darren Wright, a spokesperson for Oro Valley police who was investigating the incident.
