Funding Now Available for Community Projects in 29th Street Thrive Zone: Local Residents Encouraged to Apply

The City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) department has opened applications for funding in the 29th Street Thrive Zone. The initiative, started by the Mayor and Council in 2022, aims to support community projects in the area bordered by Alvernon, Craycroft, 22nd Street, and Golf Links. The program connects neighborhood improvements with better access to education, services, jobs, and safety.

Action Activities are projects selected by community leaders after two years of discussions with residents. These projects are intended to build trust and support the Thrive Zone’s long-term Transformation Plan, which is set to begin in January 2025. The city will distribute $1.3 million among eight projects, with final approval by the Mayor and Council.

This year, the funding focuses on three areas: expanding refugee resources, increasing legal help for tenants, and promoting urban greening through gardening programs. The 29th Street Thrive Zone has a large refugee population, and residents have requested more support.
