Unofficial shooting range on Catalina Highway draws safety concerns from hikers

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – An unofficial shooting range on Catalina Highway is drawing major concern from hikers after incendiary ammunition fired at the range sparked a wildfire in 2023.

Since 2017, three fires have been caused by recreational shooting at the gun range. Target shooting is allowed on U.S. Forest land, but several hikers said the activity is not worth the risks.
