TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – As Arizona loses teachers faster than it can replace them, hundreds of veterans are stepping up to help address the shortage.
The Arizona Department of Education has certified more than 580 military members as teachers through the “Troops to Educators” program.
Arizona teacher salaries are lower than the national average, making it difficult to attract new teachers. Teachers also leave at higher rates. The Arizona Department of Education reports more than 1,000 teachers have quit since July.
