At the sound of hammer striking hot steel, history comes alive at Gold King Mine Ghost Town. For William W. Weathersby, blacksmith, that sound is more than a demonstration for visitors — it’s a craft, a calling, and a connection to Jerome’s past that he has lived most of his life.
Born in Tucson when much of the city was still dirt roads, Weathersby moved to Jerome in the fourth grade.
Growing up in the former mining town, his childhood was spent roaming. “I love sharing stories about growing up in Jerome,” Weathersby said. “Telling stories of exploring mines and abandoned buildings to playing in the old Daisy Hotel, and so much more.”…
