Pima County approves first major batch of opioid settlement grants

The first sizable batch of opioid settlement funds in Pima County will go to several local organizations working on youth education, addiction recovery and post-jail transition services.

On Tuesday, county supervisors approved about $3.75 million in opioid settlement-funded grants. Last month, they approved another $1.8 million of those funds for a detox pilot program pushed for by the City of Tucson.

Local governments around the country are receiving payments as a result of several settlements with pharmaceutical companies accused of causing the opioid addiction crisis. Much of that money is going towards efforts to combat opioid addiction and its effects…
