Tucson homeless look to food assistance amid SNAP work requirement concerns

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Z Mansion has been feeding Tucson’s homeless every Sunday for 25 years, but pastor Rick McCallum said the number of people they serve has exploded in the last six months.

“Two to three years ago, we fed 175-200 people on Sunday morning; we thought it was fairly busy, now 350,” said McCallum.

According to McCallum, the increase comes as it becomes increasingly harder for homeless and lower-income people to access food. Once the government shutdown paused SNAP benefits for thousands of Arizonans, McCallum said people who weren’t homeless started showing up at the door…
