Oro Valley council votes on 3 tax increases on Jan. 14

Three long-discussed tax increases come to the Oro Valley Town Council for votes this Wednesday, Jan. 14.

For months, staff has discussed the need for additional revenues. It has proposed 2.5% taxes on commercial rental property, telecommunications, and business purchases made in jurisdictions where sales taxes are not levied. The latter is referred to as a “use” tax.

If passed, the three taxes would generate an estimated $930,000-$1.88 million in additional annual revenue. Staff proposes revenue from the levies be dedicated to “future capital needs.” If adopted, the taxes would take effect July 1, 2026, the first day of Oro Valley’s next fiscal year…
