Mexican Consulate in Brownsville offering health screenings

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — The Mexican Consulate in Brownsville, Texas is partnering up with a local health organization to offer basic health services to those north of the border.

New Horizon Health Center will operate within the Consulate as part of a new program, Ventanilla de Salud (Health Window), “to improve health outcomes and access to care for Hispanic communities,” according to a statement the organization issued Friday.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed Feb. 13, healthcare employees operating at the consulate will provide patients access to preventative health services and screenings for blood pressure and diabetes, as well as bilingual guidance on public health insurance programs.

Patients also will get connected to medical facilities and homes, primary care providers, vaccination facilities, and community clinics, and be provided with education for those with chronic conditions and mental health issues.

“This initiative does more than fill gaps, it brings trusted, accessible health resources directly into the community,” New Horizon Health Center CEO Jason Wallace said. “Data shows that Hispanic populations face significant barriers to care. By offering culturally responsive support through the Ventanilla de Salud, we can help reduce those disparities and improve health outcomes.”…
