University of Arizona approves new dorm building as first-year housing requirement set to take effect

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Arizona Board of Regents approved plans for the University of Arizona to build a 19 story residence hall at the corner of East Speedway Boulevard and North Campbell Avenue.

The approval coincides with a new policy requiring first-year students to live on campus beginning this fall, unless they live within 30 miles of campus or are facing specific circumstances.

The existing Palm Shadows apartment complex on the site will be demolished to make way for the new building, which is expected to house 1,200 students. The project carries an estimated cost of $250 million to the university, but no room pricing for students has been announced…
