Arizona is hosting the Big 12 Track and Field Championships for the first time, and one day into the competition it already has a conference champion.
Jett Kinder won the men’s javelin title with a throw of 70.02 meters (229 feet, 9 inches) on Thursday afternoon at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. It was a personal best for Kinder, a senior from Brentwood, Tenn., and tied for the 8th-best distance in school history in outdoor competition.
Kinder’s 10 points for 1st place were part of 18 scored by the Arizona men’s squad on Thursday, good enough for third place. The Wildcats also got points in the hammer throw (Tyler Michelin, 5th; Michael Ogbeiwi, 7th) and 10,000-meter run (Evans Tanui, 7th)…
