TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Desert Thunder Squadron is expanding a program designed to help retiring Davis-Monthan Air Force Base airmen transition into civilian careers, addressing a challenge faced by hundreds of service members each year.
More than 600 airmen at the base finish their military service annually, and many have never written a resume. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows nearly 300,000 veterans were unemployed in 2025.
The “One Year Away” program encourages airmen to begin planning their post-military careers at least a year before they leave service. The squadron hosted a hands-on workshop at the Pima Community College Aviation Technology Campus to connect retiring service members with civilian employers…
