Tulsa man sues police over wrongful arrest

According to the lawsuit and body camera footage obtained by News On 6, the arrest happened at an East Tulsa apartment complex September 24, 2024.

Q: Who were officers originally looking for?

Police were attempting to locate a man suspected of failing to register as a sex offender. Officers described that suspect as a young Black man with gang-related tattoos. Walker, who does not have tattoos, says he was mistaken for that individual.

Q: What does body camera footage show?

In approximately 40 minutes of body camera footage, officers can be heard questioning whether Walker was the correct person. At one point, an officer says they believe they may have detained the wrong man.

Despite those concerns, officers continued the encounter and ultimately arrested Walker.

Walker says he was taking out the trash when officers approached him. He repeatedly told them they had the wrong person and said he did not match the suspect’s identifying features.
