TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Air & Space Museum will soon welcome the historic A-26 Invader “Lady Liberty” as a permanent exhibit, giving the World War II aircraft a new home after a catastrophic nose gear failure ended its flying career.
The bomber has deep ties to Tulsa. A-26 aircraft were built during World War II at the Douglas Aircraft Plant, located across the runway from today’s museum, where thousands of Oklahomans helped produce the aircraft.
Lady Liberty will be transported from Ponca City Regional Airport to Tulsa beginning July 20. The aircraft will be disassembled, moved by multiple semi-trailers and reassembled at the museum before restoration work begins.
The museum plans to dedicate the aircraft Sept. 26, 2026. Officials are seeking community donations to help cover transportation, restoration and exhibit preparation costs.
