Bixby superintendent discusses school safety, recess and cell phones
BIXBY, Okla. – Bixby Public Schools students return to class Aug. 19, and student safety remains a top priority for the district.
Superintendent Lydia Wilson is entering her second year in the role and spoke with News On 6 about preparations for the new school year, including new safety training for students and staff, changes related to the state’s recess law and what the district learned during the first year of the state’s cell phone restrictions.
Q: What is Bixby doing to improve student safety?
Lydia Wilson: “Well, Bixby started last semester working on training with “I Love You Guys” to do a standard response protocol, which means we really shift from scenario and trying to figure out what to do to responses, always knowing what to do and apply it to the scenario as appropriate.”…
