Local couple delivers baby in QuikTrip parking lot due to icy road conditions

TULSA, Okla. — A local couple couldn’t make it to the hospital due to icy road conditions so they delivered their baby in a QuikTrip parking lot.

The sweet little bundle of joy, Rowan, weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces, and came into this world calling the shots.

Robyn Manuel’s water broke around 2 a.m. on Monday during the  ice storm. Her husband, Landon, jumped up to pack the car and start heading to the hospital. He said at the time, the biggest stressor was the roads. As they dropped off their oldest daughter at grandma’s house, Robyn said Rowan wasn’t waiting anymore.

“When we were at 11th, there’s a lot of pressure. I just think every time I looked at the time and the speed he was going, I don’t know if we’re going to make it. We’re going too slow. It’s taking us forever to get to the point we’ve gotten to. I don’t know if we’re going to make it,” she said.

Landon said he called 911 and the operator said he’ll have to be the one to deliver the baby because the roads were so icy EMSA wouldn’t get there in time. So he pulled over at the QT off 11th and Highway 169. He saw the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck three times.
