Oklahoma documentary finalist in Oscar Qualifying film festival

TULSA, Okla. – Another Oklahoma story could be on it’s way to a much bigger audience on film.

ᏗᏂᏠᎯ ᎤᏪᏯ (Meet Me at the Creek )”, is a finalist in the 2024 Big Sky Film Festival, an Oscar qualifying event.

Tulsa filmmaker Loren Waters is the driving force behind the documentary that digs into the decades-long struggle to revive Tar Creek in Miami, Oklahoma.

The film is narrated and co-produced by Rebecca Jim, a Cherokee Nation elder and long-time leader of the Tar Creek restoration efforts.

Jim reveals that the  community stands to lose much more than water. It could also lose a sacred space for community building, ceremony, and connection with nature.

Following the world premiere, Waters plans to return the film to its roots in Oklahoma. The Tulsa premiere,  and following Northeastern Oklahoma screenings, (dates TBD) will include additional interactive programming to provide a deeper exploration of the themes and stories presented in the short documentary.

Winners will be announced at the Big Sky awards event on Thursday, February 22. Contending films in all categories can be streamed on the Festival website from February 19-29.
