Tulsa and Broken Arrow hope to have full trash and recycling service back next week

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Cities of Tulsa and Broken Arrow hope to have their trash and recycling service back to normal starting next Monday.

FOX23 checked in with both cities who had to suspend trash service twice because of two weeks of back-to-back winter weather events.

“It was a perfect storm of sorts for us because not only did we have two winter weather events so close to each other, we had a national holiday one day where trash service was already suspended that we were going to have to do catch up on as well,” Jerry Schuber Sr., Director of Solid Waste and Recycling in Broken Arrow, said.

Schuber said he and his team were making great headway in catching up on trash pick up once streets were safer, and in Broken Arrow everything was easily set to be back to normal soon. Schuber himself was out in a truck helping unload bins, took a break for an interview with FOX23, and then went back out to help his crews clear the backlog afterwards.

“We had one truck that was stuck, and then the tow truck that came to assist was also sliding on the icy roads,” Schuber said. “Many of these streets were just too slick at times for us to even try to pick up anything.”
