BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The City of Broken Arrow was founded in 1902. It wasn’t until the 70s the town established a city hall when the population was just under 12,000.
Since then, BA has become Tulsa’s biggest suburb with more than 120,000 people living there.
City Manager Michael Spurgeon said with a growing population, city hall needs to reflect the demand.
“City council isn’t readily on someone’s mind unless they need to come here to pay a utility bill or pick up a building permit,” he said.
Spurgeon said they’ve outgrown the current city hall.
There’s not enough room and human resources is in an old home across the street.
Which is why he’s helping form a committee to develop ideas for a new city hall to last another 50 years.
“Time doesn’t stop and our community is growing fast because it’s a safe community, it’s recognized as one of the greatest places in Oklahoma and the entire region to live, work and play,” Spurgeon said. “In order to do that, we have to make sure that we’re looking at the potential growth.”
