OSAGE COUNTY, Okla. — According to court documents, Michael Shaputis, an inmate at Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, coordinated a plan with several other inmates to attack a rival gang member in May 2023, after Shaputis had been threatened earlier that day.
Shaputis said he was held hostage at knifepoint by other inmates for a reason that caused “consequences” to happen.
The other members from his gang, according to Shaputis, didn’t like how he was taken hostage.
Another inmate identified Shaputis as the one who stabbed an inmate, Marion Johnson. Johnson tried to run away from Shaputis after being stabbed the first time, but tripped and fell and was stabbed again.
According to court documents, Johnson died from the severity of his stab wounds.
Shaputis said the intention wasn’t for Johnson to be “hit” that many times that caused him to die.
Shaputis said he was trying to stab another inmate, identified as “Brown, and refused to identify who stabbed Johnson.
Shaputis acknowledged that he had a homemade weapon he described as an “ice pick” and used it to stab “Brown” during the altercation.
