SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — The next four weeks is dedicated to coyotes for their mating season.
Sand Springs Animal Welfare said to be careful and most importantly be aware of your surroundings when dusk and dawn come.
“It’s mating season so they’ll have pups in the spring. So you just really have to watch. You just got to really watch your small dogs. It’s never a good idea to let them out by themselves especially at dusk or dawn. That’s when the coyotes are going to be really active and they will jump your fence and take your dog,” said Tracy Arvivson, coordinator with Sand Springs Animal Welfare.
While they aren’t huge animals, they can be dangerous and carry diseases like rabies or even mange.
“They can carry rabies, they can carry lots of stuff. They can carry mange, a lot of them have mange. So you just got to be really careful and you just don’t definitely want to come in contact with one,” Arvivson said.
Arvivson said coyotes that live in the city, aren’t typically scared of humans and gave advice on how to deal with them when you see one.
