TULSA. Okla. — A Tulsa sophomore will head to New York City to represent Oklahoma in a nationwide acting competition.
Edison Preparatory School student AJ Wyatt only started acting a few years ago in the 8th grade.
“It’s fun to be on the stage, I love to perform,” he told FOX23.
In that short time though, he’s already making a name for himself. In April, he’ll head to NYC to compete in the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition.
To get there, he first competed against his classmates, then his school, then students across the state. He won at the state level which landed him the spot in New York.
Wyatt joins a handful of other Edison students to make it to the national competition and of course wants to go all the way. The first prize winner gets to travel overseas this summer to participate in the British American Drama Academy Mid-Summer Conservatory Program at Oxford.
Wyatt’s story gets even crazier though because his mom is also his acting teacher at school.
