CATOOSA, Okla. — The Catoosa community is coming together to help one of their police officers now battling a very developed form of cancer.
A chili benefit was held Saturday afternoon to raise money for Captain Jennifer Swarer with the Catoosa Police Department (CPD), who’s battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Swarer has been with CPD for 15 years. She’s also a mom, a leader and a friend.
“She’s in the fight for her life and cancer doesn’t discriminate, rich people, poor people, whether you can afford, you can’t afford to have cancer either way, so this money is going to go to support her during her fight so she can keep up with her bills and to take care of her daughter,” said Catoosa Police Chief Ronnie Benight.
Friends, family, community members and leaders all joined at the Wells Middle school Cafeteria in Catoosa to raise money for Swarer to help with medical bills as she continues to battle cancer.
“We’re going to need to continue to support, this is going to be a battle and we plan on having other benefits and we’d like to see this support at other benefits also. Catoosa is a great community. Our citizens here, they know that we have their back and they’ve shown us that they have our backs also and it warms your heart,” Benight said.
