OU, TCC become first schools to offer Air Traffic training program

NORMAN, Okla. ( KFOR ) – The University of Oklahoma and Tulsa Community College have become the first schools for the Enhanced Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI), according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA says the program offers the same curriculum and technology provided by the FAA Air Traffic Controller Academy in Oklahoma City. The program aims to offer the necessary controller training to make sure graduates have the skills they need to start facility training.

β€œThe FAA is working to hire and train more air traffic controllers, in order to reverse the decades-long decline in our workforce and ensure the safety of the flying public. The Enhanced AT-CTI program is an important part of that effort,” said FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker.

Officials say graduates will get an endorsement certificate from an Enhanced AT-CTI school and immediately begin training at an FAA facility. The difference between this enhanced program and the Standard AT-CTA program is that enhanced students will still need to pass the Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA) exam and meet the medical and security requirements.
