Tulsa Pride weekend kicks off with Pride in the Park at Guthrie Green

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Pride kicked off its weekend of festivities with Pride in the Park at Guthrie Green.

“This year is the first year that we’ve actually moved it to October because it’s just so hot in June,” said Brittany Stout, one of the volunteers for Tulsa Pride. “Last year, we just had a lot of medical events and medical emergencies because of the heat, so today is National Coming Out Day and that really means a lot to this community, so we wanted to move it to a cooler and nicer time of the year and obviously, it’s paying off.”

This year’s Pride at the Park offered various activities including Drag Story Time, bracelet making, giant Jenga, giant ping pong, cornhole and live music performances.

Stout said, “I just love interacting with the community, being out here, and being a volunteer. This is one of my favorite events to volunteer for. It’s hard and it takes a lot of work, but it’s so much fun to see people really interacting with their community.”

Pride at the Park is only the first event planned for the weekend. The Pride Festival will be occurring from 12-9 on both Saturday and Sunday Oct. 12 and 13.
