Trial continues for man accused of torturing, abusing, killing his stepson

TULSA, Okla. — Closing arguments will start Monday in the murder trial for a man accused of torturing and killing his stepson.

FOX23 has brought you coverage all week of the trial against John Miles III in the death of 11-year-old Orlando Hugger Jr.

Orlando’s body has never been found.

The trial will continue into next week.

On Friday, the state brought its last pair of witnesses before the jury, trying to prove that Miles is responsible for the death of Orlando and for the abuse against his four other kids.

However, throughout this whole time, Miles said he’s innocent.

On Friday, the jury heard testimonies from Tulsa detectives who originally interviewed Miles and his girlfriend, Camille Lewis, in February 2023. Lewis is the mother of Orlando and their four other kids.

Jurors watched hour-long interviews between Tulsa detectives and Miles in the days leading up to his arrest.

The defense argued for the same claims Miles made in those interviews that Miles was never home enough to witness the abuse and that he moved out before Orlando disappeared in 2021.
