Tulsa’s Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution hold “Let Freedom Ring” celebration

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa chapter of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution held their “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony to celebrate Independence Day.

“What we’re doing today is we’re commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” said Philip Hunt, past president of the Oklahoma Sons of the American Revolution and the Vice President General Nominee for the South Central District. “In 1963, it was made official that we could celebrate the day by ringing of the bells, so what we’ve been doing for over 10 years now in paying homage to our country is we come and we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence by ringing the bells…We do this in conjunction with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Children of the American Revolution so that we can all be inclusive in commemorating our history.”

Hunt said they ring the bell 13 times…
