The Tulsa Zoo has begun introducing Asian elephants Billy and Tina to the rest of its herd following the duo’s completion of a standard quarantine period.
The process started with “howdies,” a controlled method of introduction that allows elephants to safely interact through a barrier before making full contact. According to the zoo, Billy and Tina were able to see, smell and hear the other elephants even during quarantine, helping ease the transition.
