We Finally Visit Sushi Train

I don’t know how many times I’ve passed the Sushi Train restaurant at 51st and Harvard since moving to Tulsa in 2004. Joss actually went with a friend a few months ago and loved it. So when he was bored the other day (and we needed dinner plans anyway), we finally went together! It was my first time, so he got to explain everything to me.

There are a few tables by the window, where you can sit if you’re planning to order from the menu. But if you want the full Sushi Train experience, you’ll want to sit around the train track running. It runs around the sushi prep area in the middle of the restaurant. I was so excited to see that yes, there is a genuine train delivering sushi!

The plates are color coded according to price, and there’s a helpful diagram in front of every seat, so you know what you’re getting.

As the train comes around, simply reach up and grab whatever looks good!

At one point, the sushi chef did ask us if there was anything in particular we’d like to see on the train. But at that point, we’d already grabbed several plates and were feeling satisfied! However, Joss knew that there was a dessert candy sushi roll, so we did place an order for that:

As you eat, you can just keep stacking your used plates, as they’ll be used to determine your bill. When you’re ready to pay, walk to the register by the door and it will get figured out.

Iguana Island

Have you been to Iguana Island? They have three locations this summer: 81st and Elm (BA), 71st and 169, and 51st and Harvard. The latter happens to be right across the street from Sushi Train, so even though we’d had a light dessert of candy sushi, we took the opportunity to check it out. Their menu includes pineapple whip (in addition to other flavors), sno-balls, floats and more.

We tried a vanilla whip with their confetti candy topping (may not be available at all locations), and an orange creamsicle sno-ball. I honestly thought sno-balls had ice cream in the middle, but that is something else, or possibly a stuffed sno-ball (Google is failing me). A sno-ball is more of a shaved ice, with really fine, fluffy ice. So it’s very pleasant to eat.

Wolfey’s Paradise Donuts

Summer is a great time to try new-to-you, old-school favorites. Another place we’ve passed (probably weekly) for years but hadn’t gone to before, is Wolfey’s Paradise Donuts off of 15th.

They had a great selection – and we’ll be sure to be back for lunch, as I’ve heard their savory options are delicious (hamburgers, hot dogs etc.). Joss was just excited it was called Wolfey’s Paradise Donuts because there’s a famous Pokémon TCG player/YouTuber named Wolfey, so that was a fun tie-in for him. Inside, it was very nice and clean, with plenty of seating…
