‘Sanctuary of Sound’ book celebrates Tulsa’s Church Studio’s music legacy

Teresa Knox, developer and CEO of The Church Studio, has captured the 110-year history of the iconic Tulsa landmark in her new coffee table book, Sanctuary of Sound.

The book traces The Church Studio’s evolution from its beginnings as a neighborhood church, built by working-class citizens, to Leon Russell’s famed recording studio, and finally to its current role as a restored cultural center.

Over the decades, the building has served as a hub for baptisms, funerals, music, prayer, comfort, and celebration, reflecting the resilience of the Tulsa community through dust storms, world wars, and economic shifts.

Knox became interested in the studio’s history after purchasing the building. She spent about three years developing the book, aiming to preserve its stories and highlight its impact on the community and music industry…
