Muscogee Creek Nation hosts Repatriation Ceremony at Council Oak Park and Stickball Park

TULSA, Okla. — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation hosted a Repatriation Ceremony at Council Oak Park and Stickball Park to celebrate the return of the parks to the tribe and the history of the land and Muscogee people.

FOX23 reported in October when the Tulsa City Council unanimously voted to approve a resolution that returned the two parks to the Muscogee Nation.

“Today is our annual Council Oak Tree Ceremony held by the Muscogee Creek Nation to remember and honor the Council Oak Tree, the Locv Pokv Muscogee people who survived the Trail of Tears and decided to start and reestablish our government here at this location,” explained RaeLynn Butler, the Secretary of Culture and Humanities at the Muscogee Creek Nation. “We’re also celebrating the transfer of the Council Oak and Stickball Parks back to the Muscogee Creek Nation.”

Butler said it’s incredibly significant this historic land has been returned  to the tribe…
