In the early 1960s, Tulsa, a city in the state of Oklahoma, was a different place. One resident, who moved to the city in 1961, recalls the time when the city’s outskirts were at So 69th E Ave. The brown airport was located at 51st and Sheridan, north of The Farm. He and his friends would hunt rabbits around 61st and Memorial, and camp out on a pond. Asbury Methodist Church was not yet built, and services were held at Francis Scott Key Elementary School. Shadow Mountain was the popular spot for young couples to “park” their cars and enjoy some alone time. The resident also recalls cruising Brookside on Saturday nights and racing muscle cars for money. He was part of the first graduating class of Memorial High School. After a year in Vietnam and graduating from TU, he moved away from Tulsa. He recently sold his ’30 Model A Ford, which he had bought in his senior year of high school. Despite not being a resident for many years, he fondly remembers Tulsa as a great place to grow up…
