TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa received a $90,000 award through the Oklahoma Route 66 Revitalization Grant Program to build a musical road along a section of Route 66.
City officials said the installation will be the first of its kind in Oklahoma and will add a new attraction ahead of the Route 66 centennial events in 2026.
How the Musical Road Works
A musical road uses precisely spaced grooves in the pavement to produce musical notes when vehicles travel at a set speed. The melody plays inside the car as tires pass over the strips.
Similar attractions exist worldwide, including along other portions of Route 66.
Partnerships Behind the Project
The City of Tulsa will work with Route 66 Musical Roads LLC on the installation…
