Broken Arrow Christmas lights shine as symbol of hope and community

BROKEN ARROW, OK – What started as a small holiday tradition more than three decades ago has grown into a Christmas display that now draws visitors from acrossGreen Country and beyond. For one Broken Arrow family, the lights are about more than decoration. They are about healing, hope and welcoming people home.

Donald High and his wife, Sheryl, have spent more than 33 years building their front yard Christmas display, which now features more than 100,000 lights and 80 figures. The display has become a seasonal landmark for neighbors and visitors who return year after year.

From humble beginnings to a neighborhood tradition

High said the display began shortly after the couple married in 1989 while he was serving in the Navy.

“We went to the swap meet, and we had like no money because, I mean, military, you know, you don’t have any money when you’re starting out, but I would buy used broken lights… take them home and fix them and then put those on the house,” High said…
