Tulsa Drivers Face Extended Detours as Major Highway Projects Continue Through 2026 and Beyond

Major construction projects in Tulsa are set to continue through this year and beyond, affecting the city’s highways. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports that improvements to the I-44/US-75 interchange are ongoing. Current closures are affecting several ramps and local streets, with the project expected to be completed by summer 2028.

Drivers who normally use the east- and westbound I-44 ramps to access northbound US-75 are being directed to detour via eastbound I-244. The southbound US-75 ramp to westbound I-44 is now routing traffic onto westbound I-244. The southbound US-75 on-ramp from 41st Street is closed, and Skelly Drive is closed between Union Avenue and Olympia Avenue. Additionally, 46th Street has been reduced to a single lane at US-75.

Construction at the I-44/SH-66 interchange in Catoosa is expected to continue through this year. Lane closures are in effect on both east- and westbound I-44, SH-66, and ramps to westbound I-44. According to the report, two lanes of traffic on I-44 will be maintained in both directions during peak travel times.
