University School students sell coffee to raise money for clean water in Africa

TULSA, Okla. – Students at University School are using coffee to help provide clean water in Burkina Faso.

Project Choice

The initiative started through TEEEM, which stands for The Empathy, Entrepreneurship, Equality Mission. The program connects schools to global causes. Hatcher Gates, a student, said his class chose a site in Burkina Faso that works with the Georgie Badiel Foundation, a nonprofit that builds, maintains, and restores wells.

Why Clean Water Matters

Emma Salon, a classmate, said the class was drawn to the project after learning women in Burkina Faso walk miles each day to collect and purify water.

“Our class really resonated with this, and a classmate even shared a personal story about how her grandparents in their home country also had to walk for water,” she said…
